Why Professional Facials Beat Home Skincare Products

4 April 2026  ·  Bybu Aesthetics & Wellness

The Truth About Home Skincare

You're cleansing, toning, moisturising. You've invested in serums, retinol, vitamin C. You're doing everything right — and your skin still isn't changing the way you'd hoped.

You're not doing anything wrong. Home products are genuinely useful. But they have a fundamental limitation: they can only work on the surface layer of your skin.

Why Home Products Have Limits

The outermost layer of your skin — the epidermis — is designed to be a barrier. It's meant to keep things out. That includes your expensive serums.

Even the best over-the-counter products can only penetrate the top few layers of skin. They can hydrate, protect from UV, and gently exfoliate — all valuable. But they cannot:

  • Stimulate deep collagen production
  • Reach the dermal layer where wrinkles form
  • Break down stubborn pigmentation
  • Tighten loose or sagging skin
  • Remove dead skin at a clinical level

What Professional Treatments Can Do

At Bybu Aesthetics, our facial treatments use clinical-grade technology that works below the surface:

Hydrafacial (£75)

Combines deep cleansing, extraction, and intense hydration using vortex technology. Removes impurities your cleanser can't reach and infuses active ingredients deep into the skin. Results are visible immediately.

Microneedling (£90)

Creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger your skin's healing response, producing new collagen and elastin. Treats fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores and uneven texture at a depth home dermarollers can't safely reach.

RF Skin Boost (£60)

Radiofrequency energy heats the deeper skin layers, stimulating collagen production and tightening. The result: firmer, more lifted skin over the weeks following treatment.

Dermaplaning (£45)

Medical-grade exfoliation that removes dead skin cells and peach fuzz, allowing products to penetrate better and leaving skin immediately smoother and brighter.

Carbon Laser Facial (£100)

A liquid carbon mask is applied, then a laser passes over the skin. The laser targets the carbon, taking dead skin cells, oil and impurities with it. Exceptional for congested, oily or acne-prone skin.

The Ideal Approach

The best results come from combining professional treatments with a good home routine:

  1. Professional facials every 4-6 weeks for deep treatment
  2. Home products daily for maintenance and protection
  3. SPF 30+ every single day (this is non-negotiable)

Think of it this way: your home routine is maintenance. Professional treatments are the transformation.

How Often Should You Get a Professional Facial?

For most clients, every 4-6 weeks is ideal. This aligns with your skin's natural renewal cycle (approximately 28 days). Some treatments like microneedling may be spaced 4-6 weeks apart for a course of 3-4 sessions.
